Bear Lake, Utah/Idaho
Located on the Utah/Idaho border, Bear lake is a state park for both Utah and Idaho. With plenty of camping, vacation rentals, and resort options, this is an easy trip to make for multiple days. With a full depth of 210 feet, and a theoretical depth of over 250, Bear lake is much deeper than recreational depths, and is popular for technical training for that reason. If you are trying to get deep waters, this is your best option in Utah.
Location- There are many different dive sites at Bear lake, with Cisco Beach easily being the most popular, for its quick to reach drop off that has large rock formations and a cliff like edge for exploring.
Water Conditions- Colder water, with 55-65 F being typical at the surface, and depths staying in the 40’s year round. Visibility varies greatly, but it is possible to get 20+ feet, and common to get 5-10.
Wildlife- Sculpin, Whitefish, Bass and Trout
Notes- Bear Lake is in a state park, so the government will expect their cut.
Special Considerations- At 6,000 feet ASL, elevation should be factored into your dive plan.
